otherwise it'd be a lame rock concert

inspired by the work of the lovely Melanie, i took a needle & embroidery thread to one of my new quilts last night!  i was at craft night & my fingers were too tired from box-making & shelving to knit.  i'm really enjoying how it looks, i went a little subtle at first, but i'm taking it slow, letting it evolve, seeing where it takes me.  speaking of which,  the cute guy i met showed up when it was time for me to leave yesterday & walked me home!  (we live within 2 blocks of each other & get out of work at the same time)  it was very sweet, although i felt terribly awkward because i've never really done the whole dating thing & i haven't been really single since college.  but i'm taking it slow, letting it evolve, seeing where it goes...

what lies behind the weird coiffure

you know how you can spend so much time being sad & lonely & feeling like you're never going to get over someone?  then one day a cute boy talks to you at work & gives you his phone number and suddenly it doesn't seem so hard anymore.  our hearts are funny like that, when you're ready it just happens.  in other independent news, the trip to philly was awesome.  whitney & i had so much fun, we stayed at the fabulous Alexander Inn which i'd reccomend if you can afford it.  the inn is a super cute old building, tile floors, stained glass windows, architectural details, we had a lovely room with a private bathroom.

we walked around wednesday night, had a great italian dinner & wandered into the most amazing Anthropologie i have ever seen.  it's almost reason enough to move to philly...  the workshop was neat, it was a day of speakers with tantalizing slides of oversize library storage.  there wasn't anything particularily unusual, at least not compared to what i've had to work with at the John Hay.  i took notes, drew illustrations, and got a few ideas i'd like to try.

in additional independent news, i hope to learn to drive over christmas!  i'm considering getting my friend's amazing car & that's a pretty irresistable incentive to finally get my license.

the list

yes, my christmas list is rather late even though i started it a while ago.  i never finished it really, or posted it obviously.  it's mostly for my family since they've been asking & somewhat random:

the thirsty person that knows not

Bizarre_017my life is full of all sorts of things right now, which is good, but still quite overwhelming.  i picked up some extra work at the library doing shelving so this may be short because i really want to go & be home for a little while before craft night...  the bazaar bizarre was awesome, i had so much fun even after smiling until my teeth hurt.  we had an early load-in time & it was great to leisurely set up & make everything look nice.  i wandered around a lot looking at other people's merchandise - there was a ton of fabulous stuff that i wanted, but i was good & only bought a couple things for my sister!  so many talented people that i wish i could see with more often.  okay, so, yes, that is a photo of the bathroom in the cyclorama.  it was the coolest bathroom i've ever been in.  i wanted to take more photos, but when i went back with my camera there were too many people & i felt silly!

there's our cute set up (scraps of paper, coffee-drinker, sewing stars) happily sandwiched between persephassa & plain mabel.  i was a little disappointed that many people thought my prices were too high.  i know they weren't cheap, but i felt that they were reasonable considering the time & effort & quality.  there were plenty of people, though, that just really liked everything!

the cyclorama is a great space for the show & i'd gladly do it there again.  there was another huge turnout, too with lines around the block!  all right, that's enough for now, more photos from philly & craftland later...  oh, don't forget craftland again this weekend!

deep down i hated that clown

philly was great & i'll tell you more about it later, but right now i'm trying to focus on being prepared for 2 craft fairs in 1 weekend...  yeah.  i don't have as much as i wanted, i'm disappointed because it's such a wasted opportunity if i'm not bringing enough merchandise.  there were a few missed opportunities this winter, places that i had hoped to send my cuffs & clutches to, but i totally overextended & overcommitted myself.  i plan on only bringing my strange creatures to Craftland tomorrow, i'm saving the vinyl goods for Boston, but i'll bring them next weekend!  i still need to tag & price everything tonight.  my business cards arrived while i was gone, along with my brilliant idea on how to get tiny tags printed - maybe it's already occured to you, but i thought it was pretty clever:
Img_2125 Img_2127
i set them up & had them printed as business cards, cut them apart, punched a little hole, tied on a string & now it's a tag!  okay okay, back to work - no more dillydallying on the innanet!

it does occur to me that having these both of these animated gif links could be quite annoying, but, oh well!  try to enjoy them & try to come to a sale.  i'm off to Philly in the morning & all i'm bringing is some knitting so hopefully i can relax & enjoy the workshop.  then friday i will sew my little fingers to the bone so i can have lots of merchandise for you...

behold my hand crafted purity!

i'm updating from home on the sad little laptop so who knows how the html will turn out, i apologize in advance for any weird coding.  i stayed home sick today after an exhausting weekend of what has been confirmed as a stomach virus that is running around Brown & RISD.  i'm going to quietly spend my day sewing in my studio, pretending to be prepared for all my upcoming events.  i'm going to philly wednesday & thursday for a workshop that i'm pretty excited about, but the timing is quite ridiculous.  saturday we'll be at Craftland & sunday is the bizarre bazaar Boston so come visit & buy something!  here is a little photo essay to show you what i've been up to & how utterly not ready i am...  wish me luck & hope to see you.... somewhere!
