here are two random fabrics i was irresistably drawn to at the fabric store today. i have no idea how i'll use them, but i knew i'd go home & think about them & wonder if they'd still be there next time if i didn't get them now.
i'm designing a quilt for my sister that my mom will sew, but i
haven't decided what the pattern should be! i know she wants greens &
golds so i was looking for some strong colors in both. my method is usually if i have enough varying shades of a color they'll all go together! they don't all have to match if they mostly don't match. the last quilt my mom made for lee was an around-the-world & i love how easy it is to play with colors in that pattern. i thought a log cabin quilt would be nice, but i'm not sure. i found a pattern called "scrapmagic stars" it's patchwork squares that make stars inbetween that i think would be lovely with all the different shades. it's hard because i'm more random with my quilting than my mom. i'm picturing fields of color in my head, but i can't translate that into a pattern for her to sew.
i've been wanting to make a punk-rock quilt for years. i've been imagining it with blacks & reds & flames & skulls, but haven't found the right inspiration to start. today i found that perfect skull fabric & snatched it up! it has these awesome realistic & painterly skulls that go from medium spiralling down to tiny. i've been planning this quilt in my head for so long, ever since the fleece blankets i appliqued for the warehouse boys (grey with a white unicorn head for scott, red leopard with a black bomb for tim, black with a skull & crossbones for scummy, rubber duckies for jesse) but there are so many other things i need to be doing this weekend.
maybe i won't wash any of the new fabrics because then i won't be able
to work with them!
I want a punk rock quilt! Then I'll wear my Doc Martens to bed.

Glad to know that I am not the only one that suffers from this....hahaha! My new year's resolution was to buy something if it really x 10, grabbed my attention because things are NEVER there when you wait and go back for it later.

Where did you get the black and white skull print???
I have the oter one with the roses already! I have another fantastic skull print that I couldn't find and one of my students had it in her stash and shared some with me! Good to know I am not the only one with oddball fabric tastes!

that's a good plan! i'm doing the same with half the fabric i bought this weekend - the other half actually belonging to the quilt i am currently working on. :)

I want a quilt too! Where did you get that skull fabric? I actually want you to make a custom creature for me too, would it be possible to make one out of amy butler fabric swatches I could send you? we could do a craft trade or I could just send you the fabric and $ for it? I too have been gathering 'punk' fabrics as my boyfriend is very much into punk music! If anyone is seriously interested in getting a punk quilt made, I'll gladly do it! Email me at tonya929@hotmail.com
